SEA Forum for Fishers Working Groups Meetings January 2020
The previous meetings of the five Working Groups of the SEA Forum for Fishers were convened on 22-23 January 2020 via ZOOM’s online platform. These meetings are a continuation of our discussions at the Working Group meetings in July 2019 (see meeting notes). The meetings helped us to build on our achievements at the SEA Conference 2018 and at the Inaugural Plenary Meeting of the SEA Forum for Fishers on 25-26 September 2019 in Bali.
Participants from governments, labour union, private sector, employers’ associations, NGOs, academia, and IOs have contributed to the Working Group discussions. The meetings aim to discuss future projects such as, research on the relationship between vessel data and labour conditions-related data, a model of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) provisions for sea-based migrant workers’ governance that could be adopted across the region, and rapid assessment study on the mapping of competent authorities globally and regionally relevant to the implementation of Convention No. 188. Moreover, the members also have discussed and given feedbacks on the draft regional protocol on port State control.
