The Consultative Forum on Regional Cooperation Against Human Trafficking, Labour Exploitation, and Slavery at Sea, March 2018

The International and Labour Organization (ILO), in partnership with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs Republic of Indonesia held the Consultative Forum on Regional Cooperation against Human Trafficking, Labour Exploitation, and Slavery at Sea on 27 and 28 March 2018 in Bali, Indonesia. The Forum aims to identify problems and finding solutions to combat human trafficking, human exploitation, and slavery at sea in fisheries sector, and exploring the possibility to establish a cooperation among states to address the issues.

Representatives from the governments, labour organizations, employers organizations, and civil society organizations has convened at the two-day forum to respond to the issues of human trafficking, human exploitation, and slavery at sea in fisheries sector. 

The representatives have discussed recommendations for the structure, mandate, and Terms of Reference of a regional cooperation, key challenges and opportunities for Southeast Asia in combating trafficking for labour exploitation in fisheries, priority areas of action for the regional cooperations, common standards that can be set for, and how the regional cooperation engage with external stakeholders such as market States and private sector.
